The “Kenniscentrum Energie” (KCE) - literal translation = "Energy Knowledge Centre"- is a research group that mainly focuses on rational use of energy in buildings and greenhouse cultivation.

This research group is affiliated with the Katholieke Hogeschhol Kempen (K.H. Kempen) a University College physically located near Antwerp (Belgium). This college is part of the "Katholieke Universiteit Leuven Association", together with 11 other Colleges and with the Katholieke Universiteit Brussel.

In total, more than 70,000 students in 23 cities across Flanders are represented.

The long term goal of this knowlegde centre is to increase the sustainability and the reliability of the energy flows in buildings (and their enviornment), to end up with more energy-friendly and more comfortable buildings.
To acchieve this, KCE is working in close coöperation with local companies, government organisations, research centres and other universities and university colleges.

This research group is active on three fields: Applied research, Consultancy and Education. The common focus is about energy-systems in buildings (and in the building enviornment).

Applied Research

Our main challenge is the integration of new and existing technologies.
This is realised in several steps: First of all, the energy systems themselves are modelled, tested and implemented. Secondly, the interactions between the technology and the user and the building are investigated.
The main strength is the multi disciplinairy aspect: the colleagues have varied fields of expertise: ICT, elektronics, elektro-technology, thermodynamics, Heating-,Air conditioning and Ventilation, Agro-technology and Constuction technology. 

Another important task for our group, consists of technological consultancy. Expertise is available in the domains of energy monitoring, building and installation audits and in HVAC.
Thirdly, also several courses on the topic of energy management (in buildings and in the agraric sector) are organised by our research staff
